Refinishing Procedure

  1. Inspect item for chips, slivers, loose pieces, etc.
  2. Remove hardware, if necessary, glue loose pieces, fill holes, and/or chips.
  3. Strip old finish and chemically treat to remove old seal and/or varnish marks.
  4. Sand with 350 grit sandpaper to even wood.
  5. Wipe entirely with mineral spirits to remove all dust particles. (Ensure all carvings and crevices have adequately been blown with high pressue blast to free all minute particles.)
  6. Apply stain.
  7. Re-wipe all surfaces, checking for drips and heavy spots - allow 24 hours dry time.
  8. Sand lightly with 400 grit sandpaper and wipe down with mineral spirits to remove dust particles.
  9. Apply first coat of varnish - allow 48 hours cure time.
  10. Apply second coat of varnish - allow 48 hours cure time.
  11. Final sanding with 600 grit sandpaper and wipe down with mineral spirits to remove dust particles.
  12. Apply final coat of varnish - allow 48 hours cure time.
  13. Final rub with pumice and lemon/mineral oil.
